noob networking question.

should I connect them via a crossover cable, or normal ethernet cable?

does it matter?

just wondering.

Simply put, crossover cable. But you have to manually assign IP's.

Crossover cable is for same devices (computer to computer, switch to switch)
Normal ethernet cable is for unlike devices (router to computer, switch to computer)

Some devices these days are autosensing so it wouldn't matter, but I still make the appropriate cable for the job at hand. (yep, make.)

I connected mac 2 by connecting to dsl modem/router (same one mac 1 is on)... didn't need to adjust ip's. I just worked. :)

thanks for the info everyone. :)
