Office Updating Errors

Every time i download/install an office 2008 update, it says this, and will not proceed until I click.

What does this mean? Fresh install, no prior office installs.

I have also downloaded the updates 12.0.1, 12.1.0, 12.1.1 from mactopia, and those install fine. But when I run auto-upate (from office), I says to install whichever one I stopped @ from office update, not from these downloaded backups.

TRy restarting to make sure no office applications or processes are running. Try the update again as the first thing you do

the updates all run when using auto-update, so Im already updated.

It wont let me try again because of that. I was just curious what that file was for.

kgeier I am using the full version and would you believe there is no Auto Update option like there was in 2004, at least in my version, unless I go to Help when in Word etc. I just go to mactopia and do a physical check of upates.

The following is from the Office 2008 Word help:

Microsoft AutoUpdate for Mac, which comes with Office, can keep your Microsoft software up to date. When AutoUpdate is set to check for updates automatically on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis, there's no need to search for critical updates and information; AutoUpdate delivers them directly to your computer.

On the Help menu, click Check for Updates.
Under How would you like to check for software updates?, click Automatically.

On the Check for Updates pop-up menu, click the frequency that you want AutoUpdate to use to check for new updates.

Tips
If you don't want AutoUpdate to appear automatically when new updates are available, under How would you like to check for software updates?, select Manually.

You are missing my point. With the 2004 version part of the package was a separate Auto Updater but this has not been included in 2008. I did include going to Help in the post.

You are correct. No separate updater included with Office 2008. Like you I actually prefer doing it myself than rely on the auto updater.
