I sat on the phone for 30 minutes with my friend who is a PC monster but has never even turned on a MAC.

I have AT&T DSL. A D Link DI-614+ Wireless Router and a Macbook. I cannot get the wireless to work at all. If I plug directly out of the modem>Macbook, I am online, but running: modem>router>macbook I can't get online even with an ethernet.

What settings should I have set in the router as far as static, etc.....and what should I have marked on my Mac?

Any help is appreciated!

You need to set up the encryption type on the router, write down the settings (WPA2 preferred, WPA if necessary). Then open Preferences--Network and choose your Airport card. Enter the SSID (network name) and security settings and enjoy.

You don't need static unless you're planning on mapping ports, etc...

I had the same problem you do when I first got AT&T DSL. I had this great guide that provided me with the information needed to setup a router with AT&T DSL. I'm having a little trouble locating it again, but in the meantime, use this guide from the Linksys website (I know you have D-Link, but the values that need to be inputted are essentially the same, just in different locations).

Those instructions are only useful if you have the settings from the AT&T DSL modem. So what you should do is connect your Macbook directly to your modem, fire up a browser and input the IP address for the modem's configuration page. You should be able to find the settings you need if you dig around a bit.

It's just weird that I can see that my Airport is picking up the signal but it won't pull up any pages at all. I spent a few hours on it and I am convinced I am an idiot.

The router is working fine, as is the modem, the problem is that you need the right settings for them to work together. Trust me, I was just as frustrated as you when I first hooked them up, I thought my router had gotten messed up during my move.

I guess I can call AT&T and see if they know....not sure if they will help me or not though b/c I didn't get their wi-fi modem.

What DSL modem do you have? A Speedstream? The new Motorola AT&T has been giving out?

Trust me, that is important.

Yes, follow that guide and put the Motorola into Bridged mode. Then configure your DLink for PPPoE and put in the login info for AT&T DSL.

I own that very modem. Been very reliable so far. I am using mine with a Linksys WRT54GL router. Never a problem.

Cool...I will have to try it tomorrow again. I just tried it and it wouldn't work. I guess I need to reset the router to the default settings too b/c there is not telling what I have changed in there.

If you still have issues after you try a 2nd time, let me know. I set up peoples DSL all the time with AT&T so can for sure help.

Also what is the model on the Dlink? I have manuals on most so I can check out the settings.

Will get back to you. Looking for the manual.

You are sure the Motorola is in Bridged mode? Are you logging into the Dlink and setting it for PPPoE and then putting in the AT&T Login Info?

So in the D-Link, I have to put my ATT Member ID and Password from when I first set up the modem?

I didn't even see a place to do this as it never asked me. Unless I put it where the 'Admin' goes.

What sucks is that when I did it last night and earlier, I can't even get online and then I have to go through the entire modem set up again just to get online.

Log into the router with a web browser at 192.168.0.1.

Click on the WAN tab and select PPPoE. Put in your AT&T Login ID and Password.

I did that and it still didn't work. It has "Password" and "Retype Password" and when I hit "Apply" the "Retype Password" looks like it is twice as long.

Example.

Password: ****
Retype Password: ********

It is set to Dynamic IP.

I did select PPPoE. Then below it gives an option for Static PPPoE or Dynamic PPPoE.

Wowzers. haha.

Opps, Hit the wrong button! :D

It should be set for PPPoE. AT&T DSL uses PPPoE and not Dynamic IP.

Does it look like this?

Dynamic sounds right there. I doubt you have a Static IP.
