ROM checksum failure. Please help.

Please help.

I have a PowerMac G4 AGP, 400 MHz, 1 GHz Memory, 20GB hard drive.

I am getting two messages at boot up. It happens when I try to boot from DVD or hard drive.

First: Boot failure (0xf3c481F6)

Second: ROM checksum failure.

Does this mean that the processor is fried?

I've tried resetting nvram and pram to no avail.

How many beeps are you getting?

5 beeps = bad CPU

The errors you're getting would appear to be a problem with the boot ROM, not the CPU. The boot ROM in a Macintosh is similar to a BIOS chip in a PC. Instead of messing around trying to reset the ROM, I'd take your machine to Apple for repairs.

First up check the IDE cables to the drive and optical are really firmly seated. It does have a DVD reader as some early AGP came with just a CD. James can you then install another hard drive and see if the machine will boot?

Turns out the logic board is dead.
