I posted this on the Apple discussions forum; wanted to see if I'd get any different responses here.

Does opening up the Terminal/bash prompt at the login of an admin user (not root; just admin) open up security risks even if a person does not have access to the machine? I.e., can someone do anything malicious to bash through the network?

Way... way too many specs to list.
having a terminal session open, by itself, shouldn't really present any additional risk.

I was wondering because I took my computer to the Apple store and the Mac Genius saw that Terminal started up at login and told me to turn it off because it was a security risk.
