I just bought a mini-dv to VGA cable to hook up my monitor (HP vs15) to my macbook.

When I plug it in, the macbook flashes like it changes to dual display mode and the external says "monitor going to sleep" and is completely blank. When I unplug the cable from the macbook the external says "check video cable"

The external display is showing up in the device profile when connected and I've also played with the display settings (mirror mode, etc) without any display coming up on the external....any help would be appreciated.

I'm assuming the monitor is working correctly? I ask because it's an older model. If the monitor will not display in either desktop extended mode or mirror mode it's possible it might not be receiving enough signal. Have you tried another external monitor to see if that works correctly?

Regards.
