i have a powerbook g4. it is running slow. it really lags for loading websites and such. i ran disk utility. i got a few red messages. one says "volume bitmap needs minor repair" another says "the volume macintosh hd needs repair" also, "error: the underlying task reported failure on exit". i know there is a way i might be able to fix this with the startup disk. but not sure how. can someone please give me some advice?? sorry for the long read.

Boot with your installation disk and run "verify disk". Also, I recommend if possible, immediately make a backup of the HD before doing anything else.

Regards.

Yeah I would just back up everything important you have on your current OS and format the hard drive.
