How hot is it running and how hot is it where you live?

how's your battery? do you leave it in or take it out? and how is the power at your house, any noticable dips - lights flicker, etc?

is the shutdown abrupt, or does it go through a process before it shuts down?

do any apps hang prior to shutdown?

have you loaded anything recently?

Erm, doesn't seem too hot, it's not very hot in Brighton at the moment, i've not loaded anything new onto it, i'm not sure what the condition of my battery is, should i be taking it out?...oh and it just pings straight off, no shutdown process at all, hope that covers it!! Thank you for your time guys.

leave the battery in, for sure. i was just confirming that you ran with it in. in case of a power dip, you could cause data corruption or have the thing shut down on you without it. if you can run for a reasonable time off the cord, you should be fine.

something that makes the machine shut down abruptly would lead me to believe it may be hardware related. i'm not sure by the log what it could be, but if no one has an answer here, i would try seeing if you can chat online with an apple tech and see if they can make heads or tails out of it - at least before bringing the thing in.

Thanks Eric, it now won't even power up without the power cable attached, looks like my battery has died

that could be it then...

in that case, it could be the battery or the power unit. you could chance just buying a new battery, but if it is the power unit, you'll just eat through another battery. do you have a mac store anywhere close where they can check it for you? or easy access to another battery?
