how to disable audio jack?

Hello, I am having an issue with my macbook's audiojack. If anyone can help me, I would really appreciate it.

The tip of my headphones broke off in my macbook's audiojack and now no sound comes out, not from the jack or the internal speakers. I tried to hook my computer up to external HP speakers through an USB to audio adapter, but that is not working either. :(

Can anyone help me out with this? Should I try to disable the macbook's audio jack? What should I do?

rampagegreen,

If you're within warranty, I would go by an Apple Store and see if they can change the jack for you (or extract the piece of headphone jack somehow).

If you're out of warranty, you could go to www.ifixit.com and see if there are instructions there for changing the jack yourself.

I hope you get it worked out, Noel

EDIT: Here's another suggestion or two: http://iboughtamac.com/2008/07/26/ask-ibam-broken-off-headphone-jack/

thanks, but i am still in need of help...

Thank you for posting a response, but after looking at both websites u referred me to, i'm still back at square one. I couldn't find anything that specific on the fix it yourself website, but the second webpage was exactly on track with my problem. Unfortunately, I had already tried taking out the jack piece with superglue on the end of a nail and had gone to the apple shop and was told that they couldn't find tweezers small enough to get in there. I was told that if I wanted a repair I would have to get a whole new logic board for $700.

I brought an usb to audio adapter and a pair of hp speakers in the hopes that I can bypass having to use the audio jack at all. But this method did not work; I am still stuck with a muted mac.

I am at my wits end with this and need sound on my computer to do my language homework. Is there anyway I can disable the audio jack by clicking through a file?
