Would this be illegal?

If I download a YouTube video of a song, then extract the audio and put it in iTunes. Is that OK? I just want to make sure.

It depends on whether it's copyrighted material.

I think it is if it's like a music video. cwa107 is right. You'd have to see if it's copyrighted first.

If you like the tune, then seek it out at the store or Itunes and you will get a much better quality copy, you Tube audio is heavily compressed

Trust me, I've purchased over 100 songs off iTunes...there are some they just don't have. Also, I don't download music videos, just regular vids like a slideshow with the song I like playing.

So? You asked if it was illegal or not. The answer is yes, if there's a copyright on the material you wanted to download.

"iTunes didn't have it" is not going to hold up in court.
