Ok...so for the last few days I've been trying to figure this out. Last month I needed XP for some programs so I did the boot camp install of XP. When I was done I decided that I would go ahead and delete that partion of windows...doing so I accidently deleted OS X (No biggie..just reinstall) well no it seems like I actually lost 20gb of hd somewhere that I simply can't find. I bought it with 160gb hd...installed os x went from 149.05 to like 138.03 but I bought this with 160. Where did it go? How do I get it back?

Thanks,
Erik

Try another install from the DVD.

When the restore screen comes up, go to the top menu and select Disk Utility.

Reformat the whole drive before proceeding to the OS X installation

That should do it

I've done that twice already its like I physically shrunk my hd twenty gigs. I thought it might have been that so I did it. I have only one partioned hd and thats the one with this OS X. It's very strange.

In Disk Utility, click on Partitions. How many does it show?
You might still have the windows partition.

Just one it has my hd model underneath name of partion. It says 149.1 GB...and I know for a fact I bought a 160GB. I mean it isn't a big deal but I threw away 20gb and would like it back.

Well the formatted size of the drive is less than the advertised size. How much did it show before?

160 bought at then whatever os x size is, say 148 left.

Now I have 149 minus the size leaves me like 132 something.

That "might" be normal. My 120 shows up as 114, due to locking out bad blocks and whatnot.
Try checking with something else like Diskwarrior or Techtools.

It has to do with how they count gigabytes. Since it is not actually increments of 1000 in large denominations you lose space. Seagate actually got sued over this for false advertising.

Wait, how much did you partition to Windows? That's what's eating at your HD. You might not have fully removed the partition.
