Your Mac's Specs
2015 Retina 4K iMac. Monterey. 8GB RAM. Crucial 500GB external SSD
I have both in my utilities folder, and directory utility wont open.

I don't remember the directory utility being there before. Something seems odd to me.

why won't it open?

Directory Access is the 10.4 version of the utility to connect to LDAP servers.

Directory Utility is the 10.5 version of the same utility. It will not function in 10.4, I don't have any idea how it got there.
