2.4 ghz vs 2.5 ghz

I'm looking at getting a mac book pro to go with my Mac Pro that I have. How big of a difference besides 500 bucks i the 2.4ghz vs the 2.5 ghz? I may do some imovie editing but def. not final cut. Maybe some photoshop. I'm going to put the 4gb of Ram in it. So will I be fine with the 2.4 ghz?

i don't think 2.4 and 2.5 is barely even a noticeable difference, definitely not $500 worth.

Totally agreed. I was going to say exactly the same thing.

With others things such as memory etc being equal, you will never notice the -5% difference in processor speed.

The difference is more that. Just .1 ghz. you are getting twice the VRAM, larger hard drive, and twice the L2 cache on your processor. Quite a bit of differences, but for what you described the 2.4 would be plenty.....even that would be overkill.

I bought my 2.5 MBP mainly for the graphics card bump.

Plus, it was an easier decision since the price different between the 2.4 and 2.5 at the university computer store was less than $150.

The only upgrade I made to my 2.4 macbook was to a 250 gig hard drive. I debated doubling the ram to 4Gb, but honestly, even at 2Gb it performs better than my 4Gb hp laptop...

For you a MacBook would be fine, there is no real need for a MBP unless you want the aluminium case and bigger screen real estate or matte screen, backlit keyboard or any of the MBPs little features.

For any extensive work you'd have your Mac Pro anyways....
