iphoto help?

Hi there,
Somehow I managed to clear my computer two weeks ago. I had everything backed up on an external harddrive, so have got most things back to where they were except my iphoto library.

I have the iphoto library file on my desktop and am trying to import it into iphoto. I drag the iphoto library icon onto the iphoto application. It starts up and starts to import the 6000 photos. Everytime it imports and then about half way through it just freezes and I have to shutdown the program and start again. I have been trying for days now and it happens every time.

Can anyone give me advice?

To move your library, do this: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93603 It should work just fine and not give problems.
