fixing permissions takes forever on a friends macbook running Leopard.

this is a basic 80 gig drive with nothing but OSX standard apps on it. Used only for web surfing and nothing else.

Why so long?

well I honestly didn't time it, but It may have been 6 minutes or so if not a bit longer.... which seemed like a long time for a macbook with basic apps on it and no other data (no photos, no music, no documents.)

My only thought is that a permissions repair had not been done in a while.

6 mins is not excessive, a second check after the initial long permissions repair should happen a lot faster

it's been some time since it's been done so that does make some sense.

When Leopard was first released was a twenty minute operation, however updates have reduced this a little. Repair Permissions is pretty intensive compared to earlier OS.

Start her up and go have a coffee!

I have a 250GB internal and that took about 15 minutes since I had done it for the first time. To me, that's rather excessive. Its the first time that it has been done right? If he has never done it before, 6 Minutes doesn't seem abnormal to me.
