Serious question that is driving me nuts

Ok I'll admit it when it comes to macs I'm really ignorant. I have just been going through the must have apps for the mac and getting used to it. It won't let me download anything it says there is not enough space, system memory 380 mb free, disk usage 180 gb free not sure why I can't load anything on my computer can't even load msn messenger. Please help me.

Way... way too many specs to list.
What program are you using and where are you trying to save the file to?

I don't know how to switch where I save the file to!
Just about any file I try to download.

Highlight this post and drag the text away from the browser and to the desktop - this should create a text file on the desktop - does it?

Attached to this post are two attachments. For the picture, try dragging the link to your desktop - for the .zip file, both click the link and drag the link to the desktop - what happens when you do these things?

If I click it it expands, if I drag it, it copies.
