iPhone Problems. PLease help

I have followed instructions on how to downgrade to version 1.1.4 for my old iPhone on my my mac, every thing works fine until I get to the bit where I have to restore the phone using favourite unlocking method to kick your iPhone out of restore mode and unlock it. For some reason non of the unlocking methods can detect the phone (iTunes can't either). Could someone please help and suggest some explanations as to why this may happen and advise me on a solution.

Why would you want to downgrade to 1.1.4 ? I would really advise not doing so.

You don't need to downgrade to unlock. 2.0.1 and 2.0 can both be software unlocked.
