I just got a 20gb iPod for Christmas and I got it to work fine, but when I finished loading my music onto it, it said 1.80 gigabytes used and 16.20 remaining. Why is that? Is the hard drive not exactly 20 gb's? Answer would be appreciated.

Yep, 20GB is the unformatted capacity. I have the 4th gen 20GB as well, and mine reads just barely over 18GB total space. The medium is setup for 20GB, but once formatted it decreases some. The 60GB hard drive in my PB is roughly 56GB in total space available.

No hard drive ever has as much capacity as is stated on the box. Part of this is due to formatting, and part of it is because hard disk manufacturers take "gigabyte" to mean literally 1000 MB, while operating systems assume 1GB = 1024 MB.
