mac mail settings

Hi,
I am quite new to mac and have a macbook running Leopard. I also have a PC desktop running windows xp. My macbook is networked wirelessly through a Netgear wireless router. I have Outlook Express for my windows mail and want to set up mac mail with the same settings as OE.

Everything goes fine until I try to send and receive, then I get a message saying that it can't do that as I haven't set my details correctly. It is either the wrong port or the server settings are wrong.

Any ideas on this will be much appreciated.

Thank you for your reply. Well, I am in New Zealand and my account is with World Exchange Communications. I may have to phone them I guess. But I thought maybe It would work if i tried to set it up myself.
