First off, thanks if you are reading this.

I am a mac user of about 1 year. I have a Macbook Pro as my computer at work. I was thinking about trading a guitar I have for an apple computer for my personal use. I have been offered 2 and am trying to decide which one, if either, would be suitable. My guitar has a value of $400-500.

Here is what I was offered:

Powerbook G4 Titanium, 15.4" LCD, 867mhz CPU, 30 GB HDD, CD-RW/DVD combo drive, 1GB RAM, Airport Card, OS X 10.3.9, Cosmetically 7 out of 10

OR

iBook G3, 14", 800mhz CPU, 30 GB HDD, 640 MB RAM, Airport Card, OS X 10.2.8, CD-RW/DVD combo drive, Cosmetically 9 out of 10.

Is either of these machines worth $400-500? If so, would it be better to take a PB in worse shape or an almost perfect iBook that is a little slower.

Thanks,

It all depends on your priorities.

What are you going to use it for? Thats the main determining factor right there. When my first MBP got its first dent, i had a heart attack. Then everything after that was "*sigh* whatever".

I was hoping to use it for garageband loops to run in the background for my band. Also, internet, iphoto, and a little photoshop.

Neither one of those machines is worth $400 to $500.

They are more in the $250 to $350 range.

Instead of trading your guitar maybe you could sell it for $500 and use that money to purchase a powerbook G4 Alum. You should find something in your price range on ebay. There are a few stores that you could look into, one is a ebay store (ebaystore I3-llc) I think and they were very good to me I think the real name of the store was I3 electronics or someting. Another that I found was compuvest.com they seem to be pretty good as well. And I do know that both of those places offer an extended warranty (up to 2 years) if you choose to purchase it. I think for what you are doing a G4 1.25Ghz-1.67ghz would be alot better. Good luck

I agree with DB on the worth.

If you do decide to take one for your guitar though, do go with the Powerbook G4 as it will be the faster of the two and better for what you want to do.

$500 though is a bit high for even that PB G4 867.
