• The Mac-Forums Community Guidelines (linked at the top of every forum) are very clear, we respect US law and court precedence when it comes to legality of activity.

    Therefore to clarify:
    • You may not discuss breaking DVD or BluRay encryption, copying, or "ripping" commercial, copy-protected DVDs.
    • This includes DVDs or BluRays you own. Even if you own the DVD or BluRay, it is still technically illegal under the DMCA to break the encryption. While some may argue otherwise, until the law is rewritten or the US Supreme Court strikes it down, we will adhere to the current intent of the law.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying unprotected movies or homemade DVDs.
    • You may discuss ripping or copying tools in the context that they are used for legal purposes as outlined in this post.

I don't have an answer to fix your current recording. Something like Final Cut could do it I think.

When recording in the future, try using iMovie. It will record the picture properly.

There are no plug-ins that I'm aware of for iMovie 08 because Apple has not published a plug-in API. The previous version do have third party plugins available so search Google for the words; imovie plug-in. GeeThree was a popular company that did that kind of work.

It looks like previous versions had a mirror capability, but it is broken on my copy with several other effects.

When you export from iM08, use the advanced QuickTime feature and use the Apple Intermediate Codec. Also keep to the native resolution. Then do the same when you bring it back in. That should keep the quality high.

See my guide about iMovie Exporting Guide.

As I said, I can't experiment with this to figure out if there are any quirks.
