So i moved into a new apartment and brought my make and hp and hooked them up on D-link wireless router. The problem is the mac internet is so slow compared to my vista HP going wireless and my room mate running off another router and its flying, he has XP. But this is crazy, if i run XP on parallels on my mac the internet goes back to flying again. Its just when you run the internet on the Mac OSX. And its just not my computer, its every mac in the complex, does anyone have an ides how it could just effect the mac operating system?

Try issuing this command:

sudo sysctl -w net.inet.tcp.rfc1323=0

and see if it improves. If it does then it's tcp window scaling causing a problem with the equipment and there's a persistent fix (since this is just a sysctl command it will be lost at reboot.)

Ok, so it wouldn't be the window scaling, are the setups identical? Same gateways, dns servers etc?

Yes they are, for some reason this entire complex hates mac. Though everyone runs there own brand of wireless routers and no ones router works with the macs well.

hrm, is it just Safari? Have you tried same sites with Firefox? I'm trying to think about what may be similar... since well.. I've had no speed issues with OS X on the Internet in 'general'

Ohh if you try to ping a website, it takes like a minute to get the first ping, then after that the next ten come fast.

Ok, there's a significant slowdown once it's outside your local lan. If you do the same thing (although the command in windows is tracert) from the vista machine does it show the same route?
