5.1 Surround Sound capability?

Hey everyone,

please bare with me, i'm quite the noob when it comes to mac, as this is my first mac ever.

anyhow, I have a 5.1 Logitech Z5500 surround sound system, however, I noticed I was not getting the surround sound quality since there is only a headphone jack to the MBP. I was wondering if there is anyway to make my mac capable of handling 5.1 surround sound.

Are you using a Digital Optical cable?

You need to use a SPDIF cable in order to get surround sound. More specifically, a mini optical to toslink cable, like this one:

i use the surround sound.
-you will not see any any mention in the os till you plug the cable in . even then just not alot of adjustments. a Few times i posted here what 5.1 settings apple impliments but not alot of knowledge.
-nice if there was an app to stream the 5.1 audio to a base station via wifi. lots of stero situations tho.
