I downloaded a large (approximately 3.5GB) program from limewire and the .dmg (I think this is the disk image) is in my "saved" folder of limewire. I've installed the actual software and when I do "get info" its about 1GB on disk. If I delete the .dmg, nothing bad will happen and 3.5GB of disk space will be freed right?

If you've installed (rather than running from the .dmg) then yep, should be fine.
