I currently own a Lacie External Hard Drive which I used to transfer files from my PC to iMac.
So, I formatted the hard drive to have a split or exchange, in order for the Mac to recognize it. Now I want to use it as my backup for Time Machine but I have two portions now. In System Prefs I tried to re-format the drive, but all I could do was change it to two "Time Machine Backups."
Any help on how to re-format the drive would be greatly appreciated.

If you want to reformat the Lacie to use entirely as a backup drive for Time Machine do this:

Open Disk Utility (in the Utilities folder)

You should see your Lacie external in the list of Hard drives.

Click on the line that shows capacity.

Click on erase.

Select format MacOS extended.

Click erase at the bottom of the screen, then click erase again on the second window.

You can also change the name of the drive here if you like.

Should take a few minutes for the formatting to complete depending on the size of the drive.

When you run Time Machine it will now use the entire drive for making backups.

Regards.
