This is the message, more or less, that I have been getting for the past week or so when Time Machine does it's thing:

"There was an error while performing backup w/ Time Machine."

Any suggestions... ?

Here's the exact message it gives me:

"Unable to complete backup. An error occurred while copying files to the backup volume."

Mine did that about a week ago, had to erase everything on my time machine, and reselect it as the backup device. Weird.

Just click on the Time Machine icon in the Menu bar, then Backup Now.

I get the error sometimes and just do Backup now and it works again

I'll have to try that, thanks...

OK, I did the "Backup Now" option but nothing new; it still started backing up but then after a while it stopped and gave me that error message. There must be some file that it is getting hung up on, is there any way to view a detailed backup report and try and see where it's getting stuck?

Still having the same problem. Even after having the Apple tech guy talk me through the repair steps via Disk Utility, no dice. I'm thinking I need to just wipe it clean and start over. How do I go about resetting Time Machine? Need to wipe clean my external HD I'm using and reset it all. Thanks.

It's very reassuring that your backup is good, eh? (sarcasm)

I've been skeptical of the integrity of my Time Machine backups for a while now. There's actually no way to check (that I know of) whether your backups are ok or corrupt. I'm looking into alternative backup utilities.

Thanks for the boost of confidence, lol! I'm on hold w/ the Apple tech guy now, let's see if round two goes any better...
