Auto Add To Itunes Library

I don't think you can, which is one of the reasons I hate that program. You could install VLC and open any music you don't want in your library with that.

I had a feeling that once upon a time there was an onption to do this but it doesn't seem to be there now (maybe it was just in the Windows version?)

You can play songs in Finder or with QuickLook. That way they aren't added to the iTunes library. Or get VLC and use the right-click context menu to play tracks with that without losing the association with itunes.
