I am a novice to all this. I am looking for a free program that would allow me to create abstract art like this for my mac. For those of us that can not afford CS3 & photoshop

Have u tried gimp or Pixelmator? Pixelmator isn't free but it cost a lot less than Photoshop.

there are a lot of people who would recommend gimp. I am not well versed in it but i have used it to edit pictures.

Gimp. It's very good for what you're looking for :)

Humm forgot to mention one of my most favorite painting application ever. Painter X. Not free like Gimp but it does let you try out different mediums IE Oils, Watercolor, pencil and a whole bunch of other options like paper texture. It's a really neat program for the "fine artist" that wants to do digital paintings.

I would recommend using a Wacom Tablet though because the mouse doesn't cut it. >_<"

You shouldn't be afraid to test out programs...I remember I was 12 when Photoshop came out and I just sat down for 1hr each day and now I design web pages for a Programing Company.
