I'm not sure i'd risk it.... i'd save your money.

I installed leopard on my imac. cost me $137.... 7 days later I removed it.... was the slowest and most problematic OS i've ever installed on a mac (And I've upgraded OSs many times over the years). My imac didn't like it one bit.... over an hour on the phone with apple tech did not help. The finder was so slow.

I sold leopard on ebay at a loss and went back to tiger. Imac is fast again. I was not impressed one bit with leopard.... for the most part.

Go for it it is fast and rock solid. Consider upgrading the memory to 2GB.

first post here.

So to answer your question, yes, it will be sluggish compared to tiger. But if you throw another 512 or gig stick in there you're golden. I'm not sure what the 1ghz machines stocked with in the line of superdrives either, but if you have the pioneer DVR-104, I wouldn't try the installation from the DVD. I had over 15 failed attempts and hours on hold with apple before I upgraded to the DVR-115D ($35). First attempt, quick and smooth. Good luck, leopard is tight

I have the same iMac as Justin, with 1.25gb RAM, and it runs slow. Boot up takes approx 6 mins, launching iTunes or other larger apps takes 30-60 secs to open. I could increase the RAM to 2gb, but I don't want to take my machine apart to do so. Or pay to have it done. Other than the slowness, I am still pleased with Leopard and its features.

Guys I installed Leopard on my G4 quicksilver and it runs like a champ. Startup time is not even a minute. I installed it from the superdrive and it installed in about 1 hour. Works perfect.

Something is not right with your setup. Check log in items under System Preferences and make sure nothing is selected. Normal Leopard boot time is about 50 seconds.

Okay, I will try that this weekend (at work now, not at home).

I checked it out and the only thing selected was iTunesHelper. I deselected it and restarted it. It still took a few minutes to boot up, perhaps around 5 min. Just slightly better.

I didn't mess around on my imac a whole lot this weekend to discover more about this problem. Too busy packing and moving to a house.

Yes, but something has gone seriously wrong for you somewhere if your aluminium iMac is having problems.

When I fist upgraded my Dual 1ghz Quicksilver G4 it ran like a dog .....

I lost itunes, system preferences after the first use, preview and a couple of other programmes, notably Photoshop CS3. And it was eating disk space like never before.

Finally talked to Apple Genius bar when I was in store. They just suggested reloading and starting again.

Worked a treat, sorted all the problems out.

I do still get a certain amount of spinning beach-balls. But overall fairly solid so far.

I did have to remove a lot of icons from the desktop as these were taking up memory due to the way Leopard sees them and treats them as separate windows. And I cannot open too many programmes now due to the memory limitations (cannot upgrade beyond 1.5gb, so fully loaded)

Download a program such as AppZapper or AppTrap. Drag iWork to the trash and the utility will do the rest.
