Powerbook G4 problems

My friend has a powerbook titanium that has a couple of issues. First the LCD goes off within 5-10 mins of using the computer. Second as he is trying to reinstall the OS it stops and a icon appears on a gray screen that has a question mark inside of a folder. he thinks the inverter board is the LCD problem. could this be the case. and what could be wrong with installing the OS, is this the hard drive? thanks

That icon usually means HDD trouble, as in it can't find anything to boot form. Sorry, no suggestion on what to do next.
