From the main menu > Settings > Phone Profiles > the normal profile will be highlighted so select the box with the 3 lines in it at the bottom left hand side of the screen > Edit > at the top of the screen it shows the profile your in just underneath it is a picture of an envelope, touch it > Message Alert Tone > touch it > Change > Use My Alert Tone > now find your own tones that you have sent to the phone by bluetooth, they will be in the Ringtones folder

The rather convoluted way of changing the text alert tone on a Samsung F700 - emailed to my daughter who's wishing she'd waited and got an iPhone

Pidgin is a graphical modular messaging client based on libpurple which is capable of connecting to AIM, MSN, Yahoo!, XMPP, ICQ, IRC, SILC, SIP/SIMPLE, Novell GroupWise, Lotus Sametime, Bonjour, Zephyr, MySpaceIM, Gadu-Gadu, and QQ all at once. It is written using GTK+.
