How do I edit a MOVIE?

I have some movies on my hard drive that have some content in them that I don't want my kids to see. For example, I'd like them to see a particular movie but there is a scene in it with some cursing that I would like to edit out. Which program can do this and how do I do it?

I have iMovie and iMovie HD. Which one will do the job? All I want to do is edit out some scenes. Can you help me??

Well, I'd like to try and help you Mike. First off, are these movies you made or actual DVD movies that are Hollywood flicks and such?

No copyrighted videos.

You should be able to just import them into iMovie by plugging in the camera they were recorded on or inserting the dvd they were on and importing them into iMovie. To import them from a disc, just insert the disc and wait for it to appear on your desktop. Once it does, double click it and drag the files you want to edit into your movie folder. Then open those files via iMovie and edit away! To import them from a camera simply open iMovie, plug in the camera and the import should begin automatically. If you need help with any of the editing or have any problems what-so-ever, lemme know I'd love to help you out!

Another way if you cannot import them (a little longer i.e. real time) is to use a media bridge (VHS, MiniDV etc.) You can use IMovie of Final Cut to record it and then edit out or mute out scenes or audio you don't want.
