older macbook ram question

I have a macbook from mid 2007 Its a core 2 duo 2.0Ghz. I currently have 2 512mb sticks of ram in there. I want to max it out. Apple says the max is 2gb, but i hear things about 3.3gb. it is bad to put 2x 2gb in there? or do you need a new one to handle those? Don't want it to overheat or anything.

If someone could clear this up it would be great. And do i need a certian type of ram or just any 667Mhz PC2 5300 will work?

Is it definitely a Core 2 Duo, not a 2.0 Core Duo? I have an early MacBook and it'll only take 2GB. I tried 4 - didn't work!

You should be able to put 4gb in there, and it should read only 3GB and use only 3GB. More Ram then needed shouldn't be a problem as long as the ram is compatible with your macbook.

If I'm wrong, somebody will be along to correct me.
