i've got an opportunity to buy some outdated g4's from my company at a discount price. have never owned a mac before, figure this is a good way to just have one around to play around with. can you tell me if these look like good deals?

definitely cheap, but will i end up with a box that can't do much but look pretty?
perhaps you can tell me what kind of activities i'd be able to do with these?
any that should be ruled out because they wouldn't be able to do much? this wouldn't be my main computer, but is there anything these would be useful for over a current technology pc, such as video editing or graphics?

a few examples (all g4 graphites w/ monitor & osx 10.3):

$180: 400mhz, 896 mb ram, 20gb hd, dual video cards 16/32, dvd/zip drives
$125: 450mhz, 512mb ram, 10gb hd, scsi/dvd, 16mb vid
$150: 400mhz, 768mb ram, 60gb hd, cd-rom, 16mb vid
$200: 466mhz, 768mb ram, 30gb hd, dvd, dual vid 16/32 mb
$210: 466mhz, 640mb ram, 30gb hd, cdrw, dual vid 16/32 mb
$70: 400mhz, 128mb ram, 20gb, dvd/zip, 16mb vid
$150: 450mhz, 640mb ram, 20gb, scsi/dvd/zip, 16mb vid
$250: 466mhz, 896mb ram, 30gb, cdrw, dual vid 16/32

thanks very much!

those are all pretty good prices, except the hd's are kinda small, and so you know, theres no way itll just be around to play with, if you run OS X on any of them, itll quickly become your main computer. if I had to pick one of these, Id take the last on the list, lots of ram, 30 gb hd is a good size depending on your needs, cdrw,466 mhz, thats great for $250,
mines 450 mhz, 832 mb of ram, 20 gb hd, and a combo drive, it runs perfect, I can have lots of things open at once, do whatever I want, its cool.

yeah, those are great deals! i've got a 300MHz G4, and it runs OS X 10.3 really well, so i'm sure any of those would be great, but go for more RAM, and then decide whats more important: watching DVD movies, or Copying/burning CDs. i'd buy one if i had the oppurtunity!

Holy moly! Will they sell one to me? :) I'm looking for some similar with lower memory (256MB) and the best I have found is around $300.

I have a fully loaded 1GHZ Gigabit Ethernet G4 with over 1GB of RAM I am letting go for just $700. Its even got a Pioneer dual layer superdrive! Keyboard, white pro mouse and a 20GB, and 2nd 60GB hard drive with more!

I did see that, but unfortunately $300 is all I have to spare... :(
