That's the question. Can I successfully install system OS 9
on a 6500 which has a processor that is 225, 250, 275, or 300.
The person wants to give it to a nephew to use at college.
The ram is most likely not maxxed out to its 128 Mb limit.

Thanks,

Kirk

Yes, you can install OS 9 on that machine, but of course the more RAM you have, the better-off you'll be.

OS 9.1 was the official limit but it's easy to take it up to 9.2.2. I did it with my 6400. Head over to the 6400 Zone for info: http://www.zone6400.com/, especially: http://www.zone6400.com/files/OS_92x.html. That site specializes in 6400/6500 and similar clones. As Padawan says, you should max out the RAM. OS 9 uses a lot more memory than 8.6. With OS 8.6 my 6400 used about 28 megs for the system; with 9.2.2 it uses around 41. Another good site is OS 9 Forever: http://www.os9forever.com/. The have specific info and even a piece of software to help.
