check the version of PS in contrast to you using OSX 10.0 for compatibility.

if this is your computer, then you should have the minimum power to run the most recent version of Photoshop. I would run updates to get your OS up to speed. You may need to upgrade to at least Panther (10.3) to run a recent version of PS.

Quick way to find out - click the apple at the top left, the pulldown menu should say "About This Mac". It should open a dialog box telling you the specs of the computer. If it says a version before 10.2, it should be a free downloaded update via Software Update, in the same menu.

have you run the software update recently, and/or are you using the latest version of Safari/Firefox?

As for PS, is the file you downloaded a .dmg file, and becomes a drive when opened? Post the link you used to download the trial if you still have trouble.

Safari or Firefox? MySpace is inherently buggy - the notifications thing they've always had a problem with.
