you have to hold down 'C' on the keyboard during startup with the disc inserted.

as soon as you hit restart and the screen goes black, hold down c, until you get the blue screen that says welcome to mac os x, itll say preparing to install or somethnig like that.

nope... i just tried it, held it down the whole restart, and nothing... could there be any other settings or any start up options i could try? could the CD-ROM be an issue at all?

if its just a cd-rom, it may be a problem, it may not be fast enough, you could try inserting the install disc 1, go into system preferences>startup disk, and select the install disc 1 as your startup disk, if it doesnt work, hold x to boot into os x and bypass the cd as a startup disk.

internal, it is a CD-RW. i've got 412MB of PC100, and OS X runs great, and it says minimum is 128, so it should be fine.
i just flashed the BIOS to 1.1 so i'll try it agian

have you tried inserting the disc, opening it in the finder, and double clicking install mac os x in the welcome to mac os x folder?

it does it automaticaly if you boot from install disc 1. are you sure youre using install disc1? it could be that the disc 1 is defective, call apple and theyll send a new one free of charge in a day or two.
