One reason for the narrower margins is a promotion that gives free iPods to students who buy new Macintosh computers. But another is what Oppenheimer called "a future product transition, which I can't discuss today."
It's back to PowerPC, boys. At long last we will have our PowerBook G5. ;)

i like the macbook touch. it provides me with access to my email, weather, and the latest information on technology. but i bet it still won't be a tablet.

I think it's just a price drop across the board. Sub $1000 MacBook without a DVD drive, $1700 MacBook Pros and a replacement for the Mini, bringing it to below $500

A product transition that automatically translates to lower margins (which is where this news came from) means either a fundamental technology change (like the Intel move) a frabrication change (like moving manufacturing back to California?) or simply market changes (lowering the price of Apple computers, so that they become more affordable - think $200 iPhone).

Wouldn't it be something if they made keyboards which were embedded with infrared technologies that could change depending on the application/function key you pressed. I think that's the future of keyboards.
