Video editing program, best for short videos?

I have a new macbook i got, and imovie hd doesnt quite cut it, is there anything that would be good to edit short videos/movies on? most is 10 minutes. usually 30 secs - 4 mins at the most are my videos/movies. Possibly Something that uses slow motion and is free or cheap? thanks
