Now thats FAT!

Hey. I just got a Dell flyer in the mail, and holy crap. The XPS Laptops are so thick! (as seen here http://images.anandtech.com/reviews/system/laptop/Dell/InspironXPS/preview/cipher_big.jpg). Why is it that apple can put together a PowerBook with almost the same specs and guts, and it's so thin? Is there something i'm missing? You'd think Dell would just buy a PowerBook and disect it to, in a way, "copy" the design?

youd think so, but dell, or any other company related to or running windows isnt smart enough to make that connection.

Why does gaming = thick? I understand a good gaming unit will need to have better cooling but if you look at that Dell and then a PowerBook you will see the layout of the inputs for the Dell baffles. It looks more like they couldn't size the connectors for the inputs small enough to space them horizontally in one row, instead they opted for two rows, thus taking twice the vertical space necessary, IMHO.

Yeah. It has the DVI out as another port. Maybe needed some more room for the card (or chip). Plus it looks like it has a lot of fans. The fans are probably flipped so they are taller vertically causing it to be thicker.

I figured out one thing. To have a gaming laptop, you would use alot of battery power, so they have a huge battery. They couldn't strech it out so they raised its height. I found this on the tour of the laptop. If they made a 17" XPS, like apple, then they would have room for all the guts.

Also, Dell basically stole the original Mas OS X wallpaper, they are like wanna-be Mac's

Yeah i noticed that. All their on-site pictures are similar

I have a mate that purchased the top of the line Dell notebook, wotever the **** that is, but regardless this thing has a built in sub and this is why she says her's is so thick and heavy. Needless to say, she's selling it and getting a powerbook. :mac:
