It looks like there is some kind of required sign in via an account. I have gone to the freenode.net website to search for how to register for an account. If you say I have to be connected to get an account registered, you see where I am in a Catch 22.

It is an iPad 1 with the latest version of iOS (4.3.3)

My iPad is on it's way to me and should be Thursday. If you are still having issues, I will install Colloquy on the iPad and get back to you.

You make your handle when you start and don't need an account to do it. If the name you use it in use it will tell you.

The iPod and iPad versions of Colloquy are the same as far as I know so that should not be the issue, but I will know for sure in 3 days. :D

See, that is the thing - I never actually get to the point of creating the nick - it keeps giving me the "card.freenode.net: ***Notice -- You need to identify via SASL to use this server" before even hitting a MOTD. The connection is rejected.

Yes, I do. That is what is confusing me. If I have to authenticate to connect, but I have never created a nick or account, I have no way to authenticate.

Just zeroed it all out and made a totally different account with no password that is not registered with freenode. It went in. I did not try and register the Nick but it did let me in.

Strange. Will do some reading and get back to you.

I logged into my main IRC account and saw my iphones new nick there in #mac-forums. Something strange is going on.
