Okay, I know how to do it (apple+click) 'change desktop background', but I try changing the wallpaper with another image and nothing happens. I'm stuck with this custom one, I've had for ages and no matter what I try it doesn't change if I click on a different wallpaper.

RitumBrother,

How about going to System Preferences>Desktop & Screen Saver and selecting a picture from there?

RitumBrother,

Try Mainmenu or Onyx to clean your caches and set permissions, etc. Could help. Mainmenu here: http://www.santasw.com/

Run the Batch Tasks, set it up in Mainmenu>Preferences, select all boxes except maybe Empty Trash.

What type of documents are the pictures? I think this may have something to do with it.

If my memory serves me correctly, I seem to think that this has happened to me before when trying to use .psd documents as desktop wallpaper on a Mac that didn't have Photoshop installed (Then again I might be talking complete tosh and just imagined it:D )

I'm not sure, because even when I select 'change desktop wallpaper' and scroll through all the different default wallpapers, none of them work. I really don't get it.

Thanks for all the advice anyway guys.

I have the same problem, but found a way.

I have a similar problem where I'm able to select a default Apple wallpaper, but when I click on any other picture file, nothing happens.

However, when I select a picture file using Finder and the control button (control-click), menu options appear. The last of these menu options is "Set Desktop Picture". And that worked!

Not sure why the Desktop & Screensaver method doesn't work.

For the record, I'm running Mac OS X, version 10.6.8.
