Will formatting my disc delete Leopard?

I'm trying to Partition my hard drive with Boot Camp but it says some files can't be copied so back up my disk and format it. I've backed it up, but will formatting my drive delete the recently installed Leopard and restore Tiger? Or once I format will i still have Leopard?

Formatting will delete everything.

if i use the backup i have from time machine, will that restore the files or the OS also?

I'm not sure if you can set it up to not include the os but mine copies everything, so yes it will install the files and the os. heres the apple support page on it http://www.apple.com/support/leopard/timemachine/
