I'm thinking of out with the old, in with the new, but am wondering if my old 512k DIMMs and internal drives will work in a new Power MAC 8. If they can be used, will it the slower mem slow the system down? Thanks for any help.

Thanks,

Geno

Firstly, what G4 Mac do you own?

2nd, are you talking about a new Mac Pro?

What is the new Mac you are asking if this will work with?

On the RAM for sure no. Intel Macs are DDR2. The RAM in your MDD 1.42 Ghz G4 is DDR PC2700 I believe. The internal drives (Hard Drive and Optical drive) in that G4 are IDE where the new Intel Macs use SATA for the Hard Drive.

Not positive which one, but some configuration of the new PowerMac. Bummer about the memory and HDD, but I apprecitae your help.

Not to beat a dead horse, but would they go into one of the G5 Power MACs if I found a good used one? I'm leaning away from that option, because I like to ward off obsolessence (sp?) as long as I can, butif I could re-use my stuff, I might consider it.

Thanks, again.

Thanks very much for the help. Looks like the G4 will be donated to a local school, and I'll be going for a new one. I'll just tell my wife you told me I had to.

Thanks,

Geno
