i have a problem.
my new ibook has found 3 infected files which norton 2004 could not repair or remove so they have been quarantined..the file names are as follows;

2253167787-3529483289.cache
classload.jar-3985cec3-76618efb.zip
demo.jar-65faee52-11c64902.zip

i am not sure if these files are system files, that have been infected or whether they are just made up virus infected files... anyway does anyone know about this, i think my kids been on porn sites on my computer and maybe that could be why this has come about..

i didn't think mac had virus problems...?

please advise. maybe i can go to a site to get this Q answered?

They may be viruses on Windoze but I doubt they will hurt your mac. Or they might just be corrupt.

Well..I'm not sure about what to do with the files, but.....the current "vibe" is to stay away from Norton...does more harm than helps..besides.
Mac has no viruses...I believe it had 1 trojan(which you could only get by downloading something from p2p, and entering your administrative password),which apple patched in the security update, and 1 concept trojan, which has been patched as well..

So...no worries..virus protection is useless unless you are worried about passing a windows virus from mac to pc(doesnt affect mac at all)

so can i delete them or do i have to leave them in quaraintine?
you can most likely delete the .cache files, it may be a user cache, which is ok to delete, even if uts a cache for an app like photoshop, its ok to delete, and as far as those zipped files, Im not sure, does it tell you where they are located?so if theyre in the system folder, youd know not to delete them.

Norton is not a good choice for Mac. IMO any file that is quarantined is not doing anything and can be deleted. If you don't network to windows computers, you don't need virus scanning. If you do, please use Virex instead.

I agree, but I use intego virus barrier, its really good. Im not on a network with wintel machines, but I transfer files like in photoshop from my mac to pc sometimes depending on the client or situation. at a time, norton damaged the b-trees on my mac, back in os 10.2.5
