How do I set the default document reader?

I downloaded Open Office so that I could read word perfect documents, and for some reason Open Office is now set as the default document reader. Whenever I open a a document that has not been specifically saved as mac word document opens in open office (which is takes forever). I can right click a doc and select "open with," but is there a way to change text edit to my default document viewer?
