I am a recent switcher and I like how osx comes with almost every program I need, so I was upset when I downloaded a video that would not play in quicktime. It was an .avi so I downloaded some audio and video codecs that were supposed to make it work, but now it plays video but no audio.

So then I downloaded the divx player and codecs. Now the video plays fine with audio and video in divx player, but still no audio in quicktime. How can I get the audio to play in quicktime?

Hey, AVI files don't work very well with Quicktime.

However, I'd recommend VLC player. It plays nearly every format of videos out there. Plus it has a bunch of little nifty features you can use, like using it to stream videos off the internet and stuff like that.

VLC player is your friend, and it's free. Just make sure that you get the Mac version.

Second vote for VLC here, I love it.
