Macintosh HD reading wrong free space and space used

Hi all,

Just recently my OS X 13'' Macbook has been displaying the wrong space used and space left on the desk top, but if I click on the icon and press control, get info it shows the correct space.

Does anyone else have this problem and is there any easy fix? I'm not keen at all on an OS re-install, and my software updates have been kept up to date since day 1.

try going into disk utility and repairing permissions.

Thanks for the reply - I tried to repair disc permissions - plenty of problems there mainly conflicts with hp printer software but still shows up as totally wrong - today it's saying I've got 57GB free but yesterday it said 800MB.

Any other ideas?

Has no-one else had this problem??
