Hello,

Does anyone know where I could find the original Desktop Patterns from Mac OS 7.5 - 7.6.1? I've looked everywhere on the internet, but just can't seem to find them! Honestly, I find it surprising that no one has ever posted these online (especially since you can download and use Mac OS 7 for free!) I think I looked through every page on the google search results! lol

I have a Powerbook G4 Running Mac OS 10.4 (classic is not installed). I tried downloading system 7.5 at Apple's site, but I don't know of any program for OS X that's like regedit so I could go into the desktop patterns control panel (not even really certain which file the control panel is in) and extract or copy the patterns.

I'm pulling my hair out - I really want to have them to use these desktop patterns! If anyone has the patterns, and could post them - or at help me find a way to get them it would be greatly appreciated! :)

Thanks!

Have you asked Apple? Maybe the Apple Museum guys. http://www.theapplemuseum.com/ or http://applemuseum.bott.org/ or http://theapplemuseum.org/html/main/home.html (love that photo!).

Do you mean ResEdit? Oh, those were the days, messing about with the system files, causing untold damage :D.

Because OS X operates so utterly differently from the earlier Mac systems, with different types of resource files, I think your best option is to go the museum way. Maybe someone in this and other forums may be a collector of older Macs, and will know the format in which those Sys 7 desktop patterns were designed and used.

Got 'em!

Took a while - here's what I did.

1. Installed Classic on my G4 Powerbook.

2. Downloaded Mac OS 7.5.3.

3. Used Tomeviewer to extract the Desktop Patterns Control Panel.

4. Opened the Control Panel, copied each pattern into jpeg files, one-by-one.

I've created a page here with the Mac OS 7 Desktop Patterns if anyone else wants to download and use these awesome patterns!
