I have a G4 powerbook that was upgraded from 'tiger" to "leopard' awhile back. Last night while cleaning folders & backing up files to a new external drive I came upon a mystery file on my "OS" harddrive, "mach kernel". It wouldn't open so like a dummy I deleted it. Much to my chagrin this pm I could not boot up my powerbook. I even tried to boot from my original tiger install disc (because the "leopard" disc is not w/me) but to no avail. All I get
is a screen with failure messages. Can I now only re-install leopard, or what?
Thanks for any help or direction!

In computer science, the kernel is the central component of most computer operating systems (OS). Its responsibilities include managing the system's resources (the communication between hardware and software components).

To put it bluntly: You need your Kernel. Re-install the OS.
